If your friends with me on Facebook, you already know the place where Meghan does gymnastics is going out of business. Meghan's last day of gymnastics will be
March 31st. Meghan and her friends were seriously crying for days. They couldn't move on from this unexpected news. It was like there life had been turned completely upside down. Meghan has been doing competitive gymnastics for the last 4 years, 20 hours a week. I was even sad about it. I can't picture my life without Meghan's gymnastics. Meghan's coach had a meeting with the parents last week. The coach basically said she has done everything to try and keep the gym open. She's gone to the city, county etc... The recession has finally hit our pretty "well off" resort town. There's no going back now.
Basically, we only have one option. That option is to join the team in Aspen. I'm hesitant ( as well as the other parents). Aspen is about 25 minutes away. I'm sure you already know Aspen is a pretty high class town with many celebrities and their kids living there. Everyone living there are basically millionaires. No exaggeration. I really don't want to be in that environment. Maybe everyone is really nice, but my first thought is snobby. Do I want to deal with that? Do I want Meghan to deal with that?
I don't want Meghan to quit gymnastics. Meghan wants to join the Aspen team, but she doesn't realize the type of people we could run into. If you don't know already, we aren't millionaires. I'm sure the team in Aspen is going to be much more expensive.
I'm still trying to get Meghan to take the next session off. That way we can think about it more, and get out of the "snowy" season. March and April is when we get most of our snow. The last thing I want to do if fight the weather/road conditions to get Meghan to gymnastics daily.
What should I do?

That is so sad! I know how important gymnastics is for Meg. If there is NO way for her to be able to compete in your town, I'd say you should go to Aspen, especially if the alternative is quitting! I can't believe there are no other options close to home... you should move to Dallas. :)
Awww. Meredith...that's such a bummer! I'm so sorry to hear that. I'd love for Solana to be as passionate about a sport as Meg. I think it's great for their self-esteem and teaches them the feeling of accomplishment.
Your hesitation is valid but it sure would be a shame for her to give up a sport she loves without knowing what the other gym is like. If you guys can't afford it (since gym fees will probably be higher plus the gas expense of driving there and back) that's one thing. But, if it's a competitive gym maybe they'll surprise you and respect hard work more than money...? I'd like to think the girls go to the gym to flaunt their abilities more than their money (but maybe I'm just naieve since I've never been around really rich people). Good luck whatever you all choose!
