Update -Smelly Situtation

Update - This afternoon the smell was about 95% out of River, and 99% out of our house. We were so happy to possibly have him sleep inside tonight. We thought we would be smart and take River out to the bathroom ( in our fenced backyard) at 8:00pm. I wasn't taking any chances. Dennis and I went upstairs for a few minutes and then we smelled the AWFUL smell again. I just screamed NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. We ran outside and wouldn't you know. The skunk came back and sprayed River AGAIN! Poor River was almost able to sleep in the house, and now he's back in the garage.
The skunk was tying his hardest to get under our porch again. We are starting to wonder if possibly we have baby skunks under our deck and that's why he/she wants under there so bad. We don't leave food out etc... We called the Wildlife Control for the county and they said they could put a trap out tomorrow, but once we trap the skunk, we will have to kill it ourselves and then dispose of him ourselves. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! So, I have an official with the city wildlife program coming by tomorrow to see what he can do with this little problem we have. It's really getting old.

I want to move back to Texas. Do they have skunks in San Antonio?

The Story -

We have a smelly situation on our hands. Last night we let our dog, River, out in the backyard before bed. Hiding under the deck was a skunk. We had no idea he got sprayed until we let him in the house. As soon as he came in the house, you could smell it. It was like nothing I have ever experienced before. It was beyond awful. It was so overpowering as if we had been tear gased. Poor Dennis was about throwing up from the smell. We had all the windows and doors open and nothing helped. We put River downstairs until we could figure out what to do.

Today, we have tried all the home remedies to get the stink out of the house. We've covered River in tomato juice, spaghetti sauce ( don't ask), and other potions. River still smells - BAD. The house smells better but we can still imagine the odor.

Early today, Dennis and Zack were outside hosing off the deck and out of the corner of his eye he saw something black coming out from under the deck. Dennis first assumption was it was River. In an instance he realized it was the skunk again. He was hiding out under our deck all night. Just as quick as the dog was sprayed by the skunk, the skunk got sprayed by the hose. Tail up and running out toward the open gate. The pest was gone.

Tomorrow is the first day of school. Hopefully, the kids don't go to school smelling.

Rinsing off the Tomato Juice. Thank goodness for Zack's toy gas mask

Zack is pretty grossed out

Poor River doesn't like being stuck outside.

The next two pictures just made me laugh

I Did It!

It's no secret that since my cancer diagnoses and hysterectomy I had gained weight. A lot of people out there think that if you have chemo you will lose weight etc... Well, that is totally not true. One of the biggest side effects (besides the obvious) is weight gain. Chemo = weight gain. Hysterectomy = weight gain.
Menopause = weight gain. I had a lot stacked against me. But, I did it. In the past 9 months I've lost 44lbs. I'm finally back into a size 6. I feel good about myself again. I'm excited about summer. I'm excited about bathing suits.

I DID IT!

Gymnastics

If your friends with me on Facebook, you already know the place where Meghan does gymnastics is going out of business. Meghan's last day of gymnastics will be
March 31st. Meghan and her friends were seriously crying for days. They couldn't move on from this unexpected news. It was like there life had been turned completely upside down. Meghan has been doing competitive gymnastics for the last 4 years, 20 hours a week. I was even sad about it. I can't picture my life without Meghan's gymnastics. Meghan's coach had a meeting with the parents last week. The coach basically said she has done everything to try and keep the gym open. She's gone to the city, county etc... The recession has finally hit our pretty "well off" resort town. There's no going back now.

Basically, we only have one option. That option is to join the team in Aspen. I'm hesitant ( as well as the other parents). Aspen is about 25 minutes away. I'm sure you already know Aspen is a pretty high class town with many celebrities and their kids living there. Everyone living there are basically millionaires. No exaggeration. I really don't want to be in that environment. Maybe everyone is really nice, but my first thought is snobby. Do I want to deal with that? Do I want Meghan to deal with that?

I don't want Meghan to quit gymnastics. Meghan wants to join the Aspen team, but she doesn't realize the type of people we could run into. If you don't know already, we aren't millionaires. I'm sure the team in Aspen is going to be much more expensive.

I'm still trying to get Meghan to take the next session off. That way we can think about it more, and get out of the "snowy" season. March and April is when we get most of our snow. The last thing I want to do if fight the weather/road conditions to get Meghan to gymnastics daily.

What should I do?

* Young Woman post below*

Young Women

Meghan was welcomed to Young Women's last week. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend. I had to work, of course. Meghan is really excited to be out of primary and into YW! She will officially start YW in a few months.

Klondike

This past weekend Jourdan went to the Klondike. Basically, the Klondike derby consists of 10 stations where patrols/units must test their Scoutcraft skills and their leadership abilities, earning points towards a total score.
The boys must transport their gear on a homemade sled. Jourdan was on a team with his two best friends Kaden and Shadrack. Jourdan pulled the sled, Kaden pushed and Shadrack sat on the sled making sure nothing fell off. I'm happy to say Jourdan's team came in 1st. The boys had SO much fun. Kaden and Jourdan are both very blonde. The two blonde boys forgot sunscreen and got very badly burnt. The poor boys even have blisters on their face. I guess they didn't think they could get so burnt in 20 degree weather. They've learned their lesson.

Jourdan is in the orange north face hat and the Nike hoodie.

What's up?

It's 12:30am, and I can't sleep. I have the worst case of insomnia you would ever know. Here is a pointless post about what we've been up to, all because I can't sleep.

Disclaimer - I already know I can't spell and my grammar stinks. It being 12:30am doesn't help.

Jourdan - Jourdan doesn't have much going on right now. He is still very involved in Scouts. He has a couple of Scout functions coming up. I know he's most excited about the Klondike. Basically, it's winter games in the freezing cold. It doesn't sound to appealing to me, but he loves it. My first born, my baby boy, will be turning 14 next week. That's 2 years from being able to drive by himself. 1 year from getting his permit. Wow. Usually when our kids have a birthday we take them out for a one on one activity. This year we are going shooting. Yes, this was ALL my idea. I've never shot a gun, and thought it would be so fun to go to an indoor shooting range. Jorudan is going to love it. I'm excited!

Meghan - Meghan is doing really well. Her schedule has slowed down except for gymnastics. Just last week we had Meghan exit interview for the 2009-2010 season. Meghan was a stressed out mess waiting for this interview. Meghan, myself and Dennis had to have an interview with Meghan's head coach and assistant coach. This is mandatory by USA Gymnastics. Basically, they interview all of us, ask Meghan lots of questions about her meets etc... All the info is combined with coach recommendation to see if she can move up to the next level. We found out last week Meghan did in fact move up. She will now be competing the 2010-2011 season as a level 6 gymnastics. This is a huge deal! The highest level you can get to before college (elite) level is 10. Meghan's dream is to get there before she's a junior in High School. This gives Meghan 5 years to move up 4 levels. It's going to be tough, but doable.

Zackary - Where to start with m little man. He's such a good boy. I know all Mom's think their kids are good, but he really is just a sweet boy. We are having a minor issue with Zackary. I've done some research on the Internet trying to find some solutions with no avail. Zackary has his own room. A very cool Toy Story room. Problem is - Zackary wants nothing to do with his room. He is using his room as a big closest. He won't even play in his room. He runs in there, grabs his toys, and takes them to the living room. He isn't scared of his bedroom. He just has no desire to be in there. This goes for night time as well. Zack can't sleep/won't sleep unless he's in bed with me. This was cute for the first 5 or so years, but now, not so much. I've asked Zack numerous times why he wants to sleep in our bed, and his answer is the same every time. Zack says I want to be close to you (me). Zack loves to cuddle and hold me tight at night. All the research I've done, says that kids can be like this if they've come through something traumatic with a parent. It makes sense. He wants to be with me because of the breast cancer. He wants to protect me, and by holding me tight at night is his way of protecting me. If you remember, he didn't want to go to school at the beginning of the year because he didn't want me to be home alone. I need to figure out how to get this little guy into his own bed. I need a decent nice sleep. So does Dennis. Maybe this has something to do with my insomnia.

Dennis - He's doing good. He's working a billion hours a week which he doesn't like. Dennis has been looking for a new job back in pharmacy. He's just getting too old for the Frito job (his words, not mine). Hopefully, something will turn up. He has the experience and the education. He is currently trying to work on his CEU's.

Me - Well, I've been spending alot of time in Ethiopia. Online of course. I've had this passion for about a year. When I can't sleep at night, I visit Ethiopia adoption blogs. If you want to read some inspiring Ethiopia adoption blogs let me know. The stories are beautiful and it really touches my heart. It would even make my favorite mother of 3 Texas friend (and her sister), who swears they'll never have any more kids, think twice. Is adoption on our mind? Absolutely. If we adopt will it be Ethiopia? Absolutely. Do I get tired of people asking me why Ethiopia and not domestic? Absolutely. The last 5 months I've been taking an online class on how to speak Amharic. Amharic is the language of Ethiopia. I have a friend from High School (most of you probably know him) who is living in Addis Ababa working at an Orphanage. He's an amazing person. If we can't adopt for several years, then Dennis and I will go on a mission trip to Ethiopia toward the end of the year.

I have also been applying for jobs. I love my job as a counselor at Y-Me, but I miss being a paralegal. My work for Y-me is usually at night, so I can get a paralegal job during the day. It's taking a little longer for me to find a job because I only want to do work at the District Attorney's Office. I don't want to work on the defense. Prosecution for me.

Well, that's really all we've been up to. Not a whole lot, but I'm a little tired now, so the purpose of this posts worked.

Good night all!
